THE UN-SCENE: First Friday Art Show by Chris Alvarez
Come join us for our First Friday show, which features an exposition of the Machine Shop’s studio resident artist Chris Alvarez recent body of work, The Un-scene. Chris was inspired by a three month walking expedition of Colorado Springs in which he combed the shadows, the alleys and the unseen corners of our downtown community in search of intriguing compositions where most would not find them or even see them.
The scenes he depicts challenge the viewer to look where they may not normally find comfort in looking, and depict a certain quiet scene where usually no beauty is found.
About the artist:
Chris is a well known figure drawing and painting teacher. Alvarez began his teaching career in 2002 at the Cottonwood Center for the arts where he taught drawing and painting. He also taught drawing at UCCS for several years. He now is the director of the Alvarez Art School where he has developed an holistic art instruction program which includes instruction in seeing, drawing and painting techniques and exploration into philosophies of being an artist and art making. www.alvarezschool.com.
